Richard EDGCUMBE

Richard EDGCUMBE, son of George EDGCUMBE (1720-1795) and Emma GILBERT (1729-1807), was born on 13 September 1764. He had the title '2nd Earl of Mt.Edgcumbe'. He married Sophia HOBART on 21 February 1789. He died on 26 September 1839.

 

Member of Parliament (Tory) for Loswithiel 1790-91 and for Fowey 1791-95; Lord Lieutenant and Vice-Admiral of Cornwall 1795-1839; Captain of the Gentlemen Pensioners 1808-12; Privy Councillor 1808; High Steward of Plympton.

 

Sophia HOBART was born on 5 April 1768. She died on 17 August 1806.

 

3rd dau. and cohrss. of John [Hobart], 2nd Earl of Buckinghamshire, by his first wife Mary Anne Drury, 1st dau. and cohrss. of Lt Gen Sir Thomas Drury, 1st Bt., of Overstone, co. Northampton.

 

Sophia HOBART and Richard EDGCUMBE had the following children:

 

Emma Sophia EDGCUMBE (1791-1872). Emma was born on 28 July 1791. She died on 28 January 1872.

William Richard EDGCUMBE (1794-1818). William was born on 19 November 1794. He died on 29 October 1818.

Ernest Augustus EDGCUMBE (1797-1861). Ernest was born on 23 March 1797. He had the title '3rd Earl of Mt.Edgcumbe'. He married Caroline Augusta FIELDING on 6 December 1831. He died on 3 September 1861.

Caroline Sophia EDGCUMBE ( -1824). Caroline married Reginald George MACDONALD on 13 February 1812. She died on 10 April 1824.

George EDGCUMBE (1800-1885). George was born on 23 June 1800 in Richmond, Surrey.1 He married Fanny Lucy SHELLEY on 10 May 1834. He appeared in the census on 2 April 1871 in Calstock, Cornwall aged 70.1 The address was: Cotehele house. On 2 April 1871 he was an Earls Son Diplomatic in Calstock.1 He died on 18 February 1885.
