Samuel HANCOCK (1838-1917)

Samuel John HANCOCK, son of Samuel HANCOCK (1811-1888) and Mary COLMER (1811-1879), was born Q3 1838 in Cawsand, Cornwall. He was baptised on 23 September 1838 in Maker, Cornwall. On 10 December 1861 he was a Trinity Pilot in Cawsand. On 6 March 1876 he was a 1st Class Trinity Pilot in Cawsand. In 1911 he was a Retired Trinity Pilot in Cawsand. He died on 21 February 1917 in Cawsand. He married Susannah ANDREW.

 

Susannah ANDREW, daughter of William ANDREW (1803-1887) and Grace Hartop LOBB (1802- ), was born in 1839 in Kingsand, Cornwall. She appeared in the census on 30 March 1851 in Maker aged 11.1 The address was: Strand. On 30 March 1851 she was a Scholar in Maker aged 11.2 She appeared in the census on 7 April 1861 in Kingsand aged 22.3 The address was: Market Street. She and Samuel John HANCOCK had the following children:

 

Samuel Edward Andrew HANCOCK (1872-1951). Samuel was born Q1 1872 in Cawsand. He appeared in the census in 1901 in Cawsand aged 29. The address was: Cross Keys Inn. In 1901 he was a Shipwright in Royal Navy aged 29. He married Mary Jane LITTLETON Q1 1901 in Devonport, Plymouth. He died in 1951.

William Andrew HANCOCK (1876-1936). William was born on 29 May 1876 in Cawsand. He Attested (Military) on on 19 April 1897 at Devonport. His Military Rank was 'Shipwright' on 19 April 1897 in HMS Vivid II. His Military Rank was 'Leading Shipwright' on 26 July 1900 in HMS Katoomba. His Military Rank was 'Carpenters Mate' on 10 March 1902 in HMS Katoomba. He experienced Commissioned on 29 May 1905 in Royal Navy. He married Emma Catherine LITTLETON on 3 August 1905 in Kingsand. On 10 June 1906 he was a Ships Carpenter in Royal Navy. He died in 1936 in Cawsand aged 60. The address was: Cawsand House. He was buried on 13 June 1936 in Maker.
